Dear colleagues,
Mark your calendars now! The Annual Workshop of ATA GLD Members in Europe will be held on February 16 and 17, 2019 at the Deutsch-Amerikanisches Institute (DAI) in Tübingen.
What’s new this year? We’re extending the workshop to include sessions on Sunday morning from 9 to 12. This decision was based on our survey of 2018 attendees. More time will allow us to more easily accommodate a guest speaker while leaving plenty of time for smaller group sessions as well as ATA and GLD business.
One of the hallmarks of the workshop is the mix of education and social activities, and 2019 will be no different. The following social events are in the works:
- Tour of Tübingen late afternoon on Friday (Feb. 15) followed by a pre-workshop dinner.
- Networking dinner on Saturday evening.
Please budget between €50 and €60 for the workshop (including refreshments). Please note that the social events will not be included in the workshop registration fee and will be booked separately.
Registration is currently scheduled to open in mid-September. Watch for an announcement on the GLD list and on the GLD website. More information may follow in the next issue of interaktiv, the GLD newsletter, later this year.

Tübingen is easier to reach than you might think, so don’t let travel stop you from joining us! Both the hotel and event location are located an easy 5-minute walk from the train station and a bus stop with direct service to the Stuttgart airport.
Karen Leube, a native of Pennsylvania, is a freelance translator and translator trainer based in Aachen, Germany. She served on the faculty of the universities of Heidelberg and Mainz (FTSK), where she offered courses on biomedical technology and general medical translation in cooperation with local hospitals and research institutions. Since establishing her freelance business in 2004, she has taught numerous continuing education courses for translators and interpreters. Twelve of her book translations have been published to date, including Thomas Häusler’s Gesund durch Viren (Viruses vs. Superbugs).
Karen founded and coordinated ATA’s GLD Members in Europe group from 2009 to 2019 and served as the GLD’s Assistant Administrator for two years prior to assuming the position as Administrator in 2022.
