Beacons Call for Submissions
Deadline for submissions:
Now Closed for Volume 10, 2007. Please attend the presentation
of Volume 10 at the ATA National Conference.
Submission Guidelines
We are seeking literary translations of high
quality from any language into English, or from English into
Spanish. Simultaneous submissions are accepted so long as
we're advised if the translation is accepted elsewhere. Translations
of previously translated works must be justified. Translations
previously published elsewhere are not accepted.
The editor may make exceptions to the submission guidelines.
All material submitted will be peer reviewed.
As a general guide, submissions should be
single-spaced and should not exceed ten pages for prose or
five pages for poetry, in the target language.
Submissions
should include the following:
-
A copy of the original work and the
translation.
-
A statement that the original text
is in the public domain, or a permission statement from
the copyright holder granting Beacons first North
American serial rights to publish copies of the
original text and of the translation online and in print.
Copyright reverts to the author
after this one-time publication.
Copyright normally extends for 70 years beyond the author's
death;
permission can usually be obtained from the publisher
of the original work.
-
Author and translator bios of a paragraph
or two.
-
A brief statement affirming that your
translation has not been published elsewhere and explaining
why this work merits translation and publication.
Optional:
- Author and translator photos with permission to post
online.
- Audio clips of readings and or an interview with the
author with permission from author and reader to post
online.
- Graphics, with permissions to post online.
- Up to 500 words of commentary on the text(s).
