Mercedes Guhl translates books from English into Spanish. She started with children’s books in 1990 while completing her BA in philosophy and literature. After receiving her MA in translation studies from the University of Warwick (U.K.), she combined graduate-level translation teaching in Colombia with freelance translation, mainly for the book industry. She has worked with publishing houses in Colombia, the Dominican Republic, the US and Mexico. She wrote book reviews for literary magazines for several years. For 10 years, she was involved with organizing the Mexican Translators Organization’s annual conference within Guadalajara’s Book Fair. Since 2011, she has been translating mainly YA and middle-grade books, and graphic novels. In ATA, she has presented at many conferences, has been a member of the Leadership Council since 2013 and has participated as mentor in ATA’s Mentoring Program since 2016.
