The S&TD was created as a home within the ATA for people who translate texts related to science and technology, to provide them with opportunities for communication and networking. The division existed in the 80s and 90s, then faded away for lack of volunteers. The history page tells you more about that time. In 2010 a group of three translators, currently on the Division’s Leadership Council, decided to attempt the process for restarting it. Since the ATA Board approved the new division in July 2010, membership as risen to around 1,300 members.
The goal of the S&TD website is to provide members with information and access to resource materials that members have provided. You can find the division’s blog, twitter feed, and useful resources here, and find out about those of us who volunteer for the division.
