I would like to extend my warmest greetings to all of my fellow Chinese translators and interpreters, whether or not you are an ATA member.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ATA, founded in 1959, is the largest professional association of translators and interpreters in the U.S. with over 10,000 members in more than 103 countries. ATA\u2019s mission is to advance the translation and interpreting professions and foster the professional development of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">individual <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">translators and interpreters (like you and me). ATA provides <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atanet.org\/events\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">professional development opportunities<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> throughout the year online (webinars) and in-person (conferences). Unfortunately, because of COVID-19, our 2020 Annual Conference is held virtually. But we still have many ways to connect. More on that later.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ATA is also a certifying body of translators. Currently, it is offering translation certifications in many languages and directions, including English-into-Chinese and Chinese-into-English. If you are interested in becoming certified, please review <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atanet.org\/certification\/landing_about_certification.php\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the certification page<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for details. If you have any questions regarding the certification exams, please read <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atanet.org\/certification\/certification_FAQ.php\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the FAQ page<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or contact ATA directly: certification@atanet.org.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CLD is one of the twenty-two ATA divisions, which are professional-interest communities that provide members with specialty- and language-specific resources and networking opportunities (such as law, medicine, interpreting, etc.). We on the CLD Leadership Council are here to make CLD the home for ATA members who are Chinese translators and interpreters. We provide the following benefits and forums for our members to connect:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Online platforms open to the public<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: CLD website, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yifeng <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u8bd1\u98ce, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">blog, upcoming), WeChat group (\u201cATA CLD Friends\u201d), WeChat Official Account (\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ATA \u4e2d\u6587\u5206\u4f1a\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), Facebook page, listserv, podcast (upcoming)<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Member-only online platforms<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: ATA Headquarters email broadcast, WeChat group (\u201cATA CLD Members\u201d), LinkedIn group, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yifeng <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u8bd1\u98ce, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">newsletter, last issue in December 2019)<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Events<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: CLD Happy Hour (open), CLD Cafe (webinars and hangouts, member-only), watch parties (open, member-driven), CLD dinner (open, during ATA conference week)<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Please refer to our website for links to the online platforms. We will announce events on the website as well as those platforms as they become available.)<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We also welcome non-ATA members to utilize our open resources to fulfill your needs and connect with us. Remember, you don\u2019t have to be ATA-certified to join ATA!<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are currently an ATA member, please be sure to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atanet.org\/divisions\/division_admin.php\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">join CLD officially<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through your ATA account. Also, do you know you may be qualified to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atanet.org\/membership\/memb_review_online.php\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">become an ATA voting member<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">? Once you go through the simple review process, you too can make your voice heard by the ATA Board and during the ATA Annual Meeting of Voting Members and Election!<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last but not least, I wouldn\u2019t be able to support you properly without the teamwork from Liming Pals, CLD\u2019s Assistant Administrator, and all the other Leadership Council members. We are all volunteers, passionate about our community and profession.
