If you need a quick refresher, you can read about the premise in our inaugural post\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ata-divisions.org\/FLD\/2020\/07\/01\/beat-the-machine-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>. Very simply, we\u2019re out to prove how much better human translators are than machines and maybe learn something from one another in the process. This time we\u2019re going a different direction, with a sentence submitted by technical translator extraordinaire Karen Tkaczyk, so you know this is going to be a wild time:<!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>La gestion des r\u00e9sultats hors sp\u00e9cification a \u00e9t\u00e9 revue au travers du dossier suivant : n\u00b0 XYXY relatif \u00e0 la fiche n\u00b0 123 de mal\u00e9ate de trim\u00e9butine dont le point de fusion a \u00e9t\u00e9 mesur\u00e9 non conforme\u00a0; l\u2019hypoth\u00e8se d\u2019un capillaire trop rempli pour l\u2019analyse a \u00e9t\u00e9 confirm\u00e9e par les s\u00e9ries de mesure n\u00b02 et n\u00b0 3 qui ont donn\u00e9 des r\u00e9sultats conformes.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Not exactly poetry! This is what Google&#8217;s output looks like:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The management of non-specification results was reviewed through the following file: No. XYXY relating to sheet No. 123 of trimebutine maleate whose melting point was measured as non-compliant; the hypothesis of a capillary too full for analysis was confirmed by series of measurements n \u00b0 2 and n \u00b0 3 which gave consistent results.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The technically minded terminology sleuths amongst us should have a field day with this one!<\/p>\n<p>Submit your (obviously) much better translation <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/F2HrHHUpCEczKzvF7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a> by <strong>January 31, 2021<\/strong>, and the blog post discussing it will go up in early February!<\/p>\n<p>Please note the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Only FLD members will have their translations posted on this blog. Membership is free for current ATA members, so if you aren\u2019t a member yet, make sure\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.atanet.org\/membersonly\/#DivTab\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">to join<\/a> before you submit your translation!<\/li>\n<li>You are free to submit your sentence anonymously, but half the fun will be crediting the creative submissions we receive by name and recognizing their authors.<\/li>\n<li>You may submit as many times as you like in case you have a stroke of genius after your initial submission. I will only discuss one submission per person in the review post.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Have you translated or read a particularly pesky sentence this past year that you can share for this project?
