Where are you originally from?
I was born in Salamanca, New York (Western New York State)

Where do you currently live?
Owego, New York

How did you become a translator/interpreter?
I started translating when I started studying Spanish in middle school. I was so curious about the process and enjoyed the research and problem solving components of translating. My interest continued as a hobby through undergraduate school, translating from Spanish into English and adding translation from German into English as well. I did not pursue translation professionally until graduate school; I completed a PhD in Translation Studies at Binghamton University and then started a commercial business as a freelance professional translator and editor.

What are your areas of specialization?
Literary texts, memoirs and other genres of life writing, academic texts in the Humanities, food, travel, art history, and popular science texts about the natural world.

What do you like about ATA?
I enjoy the community, support, and wealth of knowledge and experience that is shared in a supportive environment.

Tell us about your position on the GLD Leadership Council.
I am a digital events calendar co-coordinator with Katrin Rippel Galati.

Anything else you would like to share? (hobbies, interests)
I enjoy hiking, gardening, and spending as much time outdoors as possible. I also love reading classic literature and trying to keep up with recent publications.
