What is ATA ID up to?<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dear members of the Interpreters Division,<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3786\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ata-divisions.org\/ID\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/InterpretersDivision-logo-2016-700px.png?resize=200%2C177&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"[id logo]\" width=\"200\" height=\"177\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/>2020 is an exciting year for the Interpreters Division.<\/p>\n<p>Our Leadership Council has a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ata-divisions.org\/ID\/about\/leadership-council\/\">new cast of members<\/a>, reflected on our site. Many are the same as last year, but some have moved on to responsibilities in other groups.<\/p>\n<p>We heard from our members at the Annual Meeting at Palm Springs, and sent the ATA Board a summary of the comments you submitted to us. Check our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ata-divisions.org\/ID\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/InterpretersDivision-Report-January-2020-2.pdf\">report to the Board<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>Together with the Educators Division, we have nominated Andrew Gillies to be our Distinguished Speaker. You can get a taste of his thinking through <a href=\"https:\/\/theinterpreterdiaries.com\/tag\/andrew-gillies\/\">his blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Our blog editor, Carol Shaw, has been busy at work. Just check it out! She is actively looking for contributing writers. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ata-divisions.org\/ID\/blog\/author-guidelines\/\">author guidelines<\/a> are online.<\/p>\n<p>Interpreting has been in the news on the legislative front, and ATA has been supporting interpreters by requesting an exemption for AB5 and similar measures around the United States. This affects interpreters and translators alike. The information is available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atanet.org\/pressroom\/index.php\">ATA Press Room<\/a> page.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding your ATA membership, do not forget that voting members will be able to vote in the upcoming Interpreters Division elections. You can become a voting member through three paths:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atanet.org\/membership\/memb_review_online.php\">Membership Review Process<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atanet.org\/onlinedirectories\/interpreter_credential.php\">Credentialed Interpreter Designation process<\/a>. This option also allows clients to find you in a search for interpreters with your credentials. Take advantage of it even if you already are a voting member!<\/li>\n<li>Getting certified as a translator by ATA.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you would like to participate in the Interpreters Division as a volunteer or Leadership Council member, please contact us through the Division <a href=\"m&#97;&#105;&#x6c;&#x74;o&#58;&#100;&#x69;&#x76;&#x69;s&#105;&#111;&#x6e;&#x49;D&#64;&#97;&#x74;&#x61;&#x6e;e&#116;&#46;&#x6f;&#x72;g\">email<\/a>. That forwards to the Administrator and the Assistant Administrator, so we can approach you and see what the best fit is for your interest and skills.<\/p>\n<p>And last, but certainly not least\u2026 please submit a proposal for the ATA Conference! Now that you have the information from the report we sent to the Board, where you can check in on what your colleagues have to say, you can also see what is mentioned in the <a href=\"https:\/\/tools.eventpower.com\/speaker_management\/index\/20ATA-ANNUAL\/\">ATA Call for Speakers<\/a> and come up with some great ideas. The Division weighs in, but the Conference Organizer has the final say. As ATA ID administrators, we might contact some of the proposal drafters to get in touch with Carol Shaw, from the ID Blog!<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s get those proposals drafted by March 2.
