The Interpreters Division and the Spanish Language Division are accepting proposals for their Mid-Year Conference to be held March 16-18, 2012 at the Hilton Orlando in Orlando, Florida.<\/p>\n

The Interpreters and Spanish Language Divisions will host this joint conference
\nfeaturing educational sessions, networking opportunities, and business
\nconnections. The conference will offer educational tracks on practical
\nskills, theory and technology, interpretation, translation, and linguistics. Anyone
\ninterested in the profession will benefit from this professional development event.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF PROPOSALS
\n_________________________________________________________<\/p>\n

Deadline for submission of proposals: December 3, 2011. Proposals must
\ninclude the following:<\/p>\n

* Name of the presenter, contact information (email, telephone, and mailing
\naddress).<\/p>\n

* Bio of the presenter. Not to exceed 100 words.<\/p>\n

* Title and language of the proposed presentation.<\/p>\n

* Abstract of the presentation. Not to exceed 250 words.<\/p>\n

* Proposals are to be submitted electronically in Word format.<\/p>\n

A national organization advancing new standards for translators and interpreters in health-related fields across the U.S. relied on a University of Arizona department of Spanish and Portuguese program as a model. While developing training and certification standards for translators and interpreters working in the health-care industry, the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care turned to a University of Arizona program.<\/p>\n

The National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters<\/a> (NBCMI)<\/strong> announces pilot test for the following languages:<\/p>\n

Russian and Cantonese \u2013 Tests available as of June 13, 2011
\nKorean, Mandarin and Vietnamese \u2013 Tests available as of June 20, 2011<\/p>\n

The pilot tests are offered free of charge to candidates who are medical interpreters in these languages.<\/p>\n
