Great session! Like a mini ATA conference. Full disclosure: I am a translator, and although I took interpreting classes when I was getting my MA, I have never pursued learning about the kind of equipment an interpreter needs. This session was full of great tips. Here are my big takeaways: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Allyson\u2019s pencil and paper trick (same as she shared at ATA) is bomb! It\u2019s both effective and lots of fun. I now use it for any time I need to learn vocabulary quickly. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    1. AI can be helpful for preparing for an interpreting gig. Who knew? Allyson\u2019s evaluation of which AI tools work best was an epiphany. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
        \n
      1. Allyson even covered interpreter \u201chardware\u201d including the best pens and paper for the job. Good bye Dr. Grip, hello gel pens! I was surprised that most of the interpreters participating in the session prefer paper with lines. Y\u2019all must have nicer handwriting than I do. I will look into the journalist pads that are half width. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        1. Stage fright! Even career interpreters get it, which is actually kind of reassuring to know. Thanks to all of the participants who shared their tips and tricks. I would like to see more about this in future sessions. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          1. Thanks to Allyson for sharing the link to her Casio denshi jisho of choice. Before I take the plunge and take on interpreting, I will look into moving from a 1990\u2019s era Cannon word tank to a Casio. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

            To wrap up, I was so impressed with the scope of Allyson\u2019s presentation that from now on I plan to attend any session she is part of. We are lucky she is willing to share her knowledge with us. Thank you, Allyson.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
