ATA67 officially starts on <\/span>Wednesday, October 28<\/b>, with Advanced Skills & Training (AST) Day, followed by an evening of opportunities to connect with colleagues from across ATA.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you’re attending the conference, here are some Wednesday events worth knowing about.<\/span><\/p>\n

\ud83d\udcda Advanced Skills & Training (AST) Day<\/b><\/h4>\n

AST Day takes place <\/span>before the regular conference sessions begin<\/b> and offers longer, in-depth workshops focused on specific skills and areas of professional development.<\/span><\/p>\n

AST courses require separate registration and payment<\/b> in addition to your regular ATA67 registration.<\/span><\/p>\n

For Law Division members, we’ve selected a few AST courses that focus specifically on legal topics and the business of translation and interpreting<\/strong>. These are not a complete list of AST courses, but a selection we think may be particularly useful to our members.<\/p>\n

Francesca Samuel<\/b> will explore immigration proceedings and the interpreter’s role, including ethics, asylum, deportation, the Convention Against Torture, and immigration terminology. The workshop also looks at interpreting in civil proceedings and distinguishing general legal language from specialized immigration terms.<\/span><\/p>\n
