What you\u2019re doing these days:<\/em><\/strong> Working on translations. Catching up with new technologies, especially AI and how to leverage translations with AI.<\/p>\n

Something you\u2019re proud of: <\/em><\/strong>My 52-year career as a translator and interpreter.<\/p>\n

A bit of your background: <\/em><\/strong>I was born in Brazil, in a multilingual family. At 16 I came to the US as an exchange student and upon returning to Brazil, worked with US companies and became a translator. I also have a bachelor\u2019s degree in industrial design. Since my exchange student experience, I became very close to my host family and this relationship continues to this day. I moved to the US in 1998 with a Diversity Visa and 5 years later became a US citizen (in addition to my Brazilian and Italian citizenships).<\/p>\n

How long have you been with ATA and PLD?<\/em><\/strong> 26 years.<\/p>\n

What did ATA membership and\/or the PLD bring to you?<\/em><\/strong> Networking with fellow Portuguese translators and those of many other languages, and the opportunity to be the PLD Treasurer and PLD Data Designer years ago when I learned to appreciate all the work that ATA volunteers, staff and members do.<\/p>\n

Current project (or last\/future interesting project\/activities):<\/em><\/strong> I published a children\u2019s book in 2022. On January 6th I did a presentation at the City Library about my first book, written in Portuguese. Speaking a mixture of English and Portuguese to toddlers and parents was challenging and fun. As for work, the usual diversity of projects, from personal documents to software\/hardware, healthcare and legal projects.<\/p>\n

A major challenge(s) in your career:<\/em><\/strong> Keeping up with technology. “Never slow down, always strive to learn more” is my motto.<\/p>\n

Do you have any hobbies? If so, what are they? <\/em><\/strong>Walking, reading and listening to music.<\/p>\n

What is your favorite book in Portuguese-language literature? <\/strong>All of Monteiro Lobato’s books!<\/p>\n

What books are currently on your reading list?<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Sapiens, Democracy Awakening, Train Your Mind, Change Your Brain,\u00a0<\/i>and, of course,\u00a0Xexeco the Spectacled Bear<\/em>.<\/p>\n
