Starting the Year with Connection and Planning
Our first Law Division networking event of 2026 brought members together for a relaxed and collaborative conversation about something many of us think about at the beginning of a new year: business planning.
Instead of focusing on big (and sometimes overwhelming) goals, we invited participants to choose one main business goal for 2026 and break it down into smaller, realistic actions they could start working on during the next three months.
The idea was simple: progress comes from taking small, consistent steps that help us move forward.
Turning Goals into Action
During the session, members shared their ideas, planning strategies, and the systems and habits that help them stay focused and organized.
To help participants get the most out of the session, we provided slides to guide the conversation and a worksheet to help them:
- define their main goal for 2026;
- identify the steps needed to reach it;
- organize their tasks and track their progress;
- stay motivated along the way.
We also added a fun (and important!) step: choosing a reward. Participants were encouraged to think about how they would celebrate themselves once they completed their goals and tasks. After all, reaching our goals deserves recognition!
Small Groups, Big Ideas: Breakout Room Discussions
One of the highlights of the event was our breakout room discussions.
Participants were divided into smaller groups, creating a more comfortable space where everyone could share their goals, talk about challenges, and exchange ideas with colleagues.
These conversations gave members the opportunity to receive feedback, explore possible solutions, and gain new perspectives from other legal translators and interpreters.
More than just a planning exercise, the breakout rooms helped create a sense of accountability and connection. Sometimes, hearing someone else’s ideas or experiences is exactly what we need to move forward.
Building Connections Beyond the Event
One of the things we value most about Law Division networking events is the opportunity to connect with colleagues who understand the unique challenges—and rewards—of working in the legal translation and interpreting field.
Although many of us run independent businesses, we often face similar questions: How can we grow? How can we stay organized? How can we find balance while continuing to improve professionally?
To continue these conversations after the event, we created a group within Groups.io where participants could share their worksheets, goals, tasks, and rewards.
This space allowed members to see what others were working on, celebrate their progress, offer encouragement, and continue supporting each other beyond the session.
The response from members was incredible, and this spirit of collaboration is what makes these networking events so special.
Recommended Reading: Books to Inspire Your Business Journey
To close the session, attendees shared some of their favorite books about business, productivity, and personal development.
We collected all these recommendations in one place for anyone looking for inspiration, new ideas, or their next great read.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed their ideas, experiences, and enthusiasm. Your participation is what makes these conversations meaningful.
We hope you’ll join us at our next Law Division networking event—whether you are looking for fresh ideas, accountability, or simply a chance to connect with colleagues who understand your journey.
We look forward to seeing you there! ⚖️
