Working from home has many benefits, but it can sometimes feel a little isolating. That’s why the Law Division created our virtual coworking sessions: to give members dedicated time to focus on their work while being surrounded by a supportive community of colleagues.
Our latest LawD coworking session was another great opportunity for members to come together, make progress on their goals, and connect with other legal translators and interpreters.
What Is a Coworking Session?
For many members, coworking sessions may be a new concept. Before we started, we introduced the idea of virtual coworking and explained how the session would work.
The goal is simple: everyone joins the Zoom room, shares what they plan to work on, spends focused time working independently, and then comes back together at the end to share progress, wins, and ideas.
It’s a chance to work alongside colleagues—even when we are all working from different locations.
Preparing for a Productive Session
To help participants get the most out of the time together, we shared resources to help them plan their session.
Members received:
- A short presentation explaining what to expect during the coworking session.
- A list of task ideas to inspire their work time, including administrative tasks, client follow-ups, marketing, networking, website updates, professional development, and other business projects.
- A coworking worksheet to help organize their priorities, track their progress, and take notes during the networking portion of the event.

These tools helped participants arrive with a clear plan and use the session time intentionally.
Focus Time with the Pomodoro Technique
During the coworking session, we used the Pomodoro Technique to create a balance between focused work and short breaks.
The session included:
⏱️ Two 30-minute focused work blocks
☕ A 5-minute break in between
During each focus block, members worked independently on their own projects while enjoying the motivation that comes from working alongside others. The short break gave everyone a chance to recharge, chat, and get ready for the next round of focused work.
Sometimes, having a dedicated time on the calendar—and knowing others are working alongside you—is exactly the motivation needed to finally complete those tasks that have been waiting on your list.
Connecting Beyond the Coworking Session
While productivity is a big part of these events, connection is just as important.
Participants had the opportunity to introduce themselves, share their language pairs, areas of specialization, and contact information. After the session, we shared this information exclusively with attendees to help members continue building relationships, exchange ideas, and explore possible collaborations.
For legal translators and interpreters who often work independently, these connections can become a valuable source of support, referrals, and professional growth.
Small Steps, Big Progress
By the end of the session, members had made progress on important tasks, connected with colleagues, and left with a renewed sense of motivation.
These coworking sessions are a reminder that even though many of us work independently, we are part of a larger community of professionals who understand our challenges and support our growth.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and made this session such a success!⚖️
