Announcing the New Law Division Administrator and Assistant Administrator 2025–2027

December 2, 2025 By Law Division Leave a Comment

During the Law Division Annual Meeting held on October 7th, Katja Gugelmeier and Dmitry Beschetny were officially named as the new Law Division Administrator and Assistant Administrator, respectively. We’re excited to introduce ourselves and share our plans for the division over the next two years.

From the Law Division Administrator

Dear Law Division Members,

My name is Katja Gugelmeier. I’m a licensed attorney from Uruguay, now based in Arizona, and I work full-time as a legal translator through my business, Gugelmeier Studio, working with attorneys across the U.S.

I’m thrilled to step into the role of Law Division Administrator! Being part of this division has been an important part of my ATA journey from the very first day I became a member. Shortly after joining, I reached out to Liz, who was the Administrator at the time, to offer my help. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of serving on the Leadership Council, working alongside an incredible group of legal language professionals.

Being part of this community has been truly inspiring. I’ve loved having the opportunity to make an impact, helping other professionals access training, advocating for the importance of legal translation and interpretation at every stage of legal representation, and promoting high standards in our field.

Most importantly, I strongly believe that professional legal translation and interpretation are fundamental to due process and justice. Every day, our work supports justice and clarity in the legal system, and that responsibility is both a privilege and a commitment I take very seriously.

From the Law Division Assistant Administrator

Dear Colleagues,

My name is Dmitry Beschetny, and I’m honored to serve as your new Assistant Administrator. As a Russian lawyer-linguist with a background in both law and languages, I bring to this role a firsthand insight into the intersection of law and language in international contexts.

As a Moscow-based credentialed judiciary interpreter, I’m listed in the Moscow Electronic Registry of Court Interpreters and currently serve on the Curriculum Committee for the Master’s Degree Program in Court Interpreting and Business Communication in International Organizations at St. Petersburg State University. My earlier experience as a district attorney in criminal investigation and public prosecution has given me understanding of legal processes, which I now apply to my work as a lawyer-linguist.

I’m truly excited to serve our division. Over the next two years, I look forward to supporting initiatives that strengthen professional collaboration, expand educational opportunities, and showcase the essential role of legal translators and interpreters in promoting justice.

Looking Ahead

Over the next two years, we’re excited to continue the great work of our former Administrator and Assistant, Liz and Monique. Our focus will be on keeping creating opportunities for learning, connecting members, and advocating for the important role that legal translators and interpreters play in the legal system.

We look forward to engaging with all of you, sharing resources, celebrating member achievements, and working together to advance the profession.

Thank you for being part of the Law Division—we’re excited for what’s ahead!
