Invitation to LawD Webinar: From Audio to Admissible: Professional Standards in Forensic Transcription and Translation – October 3

September 23, 2025 By Law Division Leave a Comment

October 3, 2025 | 1:00–2:00 PM ET | LawD Members Only

As part of our 2025 webinar series, we are proud to welcome Law Division member Jason Knapp as our next presenter.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Jason Knapp is a federally certified court interpreter, ATA-certified translator, and conference interpreter rostered with the U.S. Department of State.

He is active in several professional associations and currently serves on committees for both NAJIT and the ATA.

WHAT TO EXPECT

In this beginner-level webinar, Jason will introduce interpreters and translators to the principles, practices, and professional standards of forensic transcription and translation.

Participants will learn what is involved in transcribing and translating audio evidence, learn how to identify key differences in the various types of court-ready deliverables, and consider examples of ethical and legal issues unique to forensic contexts.

TAKEAWAYS

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Define forensic transcription and translation and explain its role in legal proceedings.
  • Identify core legal/ethical principles that guide FTT.
  • Apply standard notation and handling strategies for unclear audio.
  • Recognize key differences between transcript-only, translation-only, and combined transcript-translation deliverables.
  • Identify next steps and resources for deeper learning.
