On April 30, the LawD held its first-ever virtual coworking session, bringing together members from the Law Division for a focused, collaborative work session. The event was hosted by Liz Herron-Sweet (Administrator), Monique Longton (Assistant Administrator), and members of the Leadership Council: Michael, Dmitry, and Katja.
Tools and Guidance
We started the session with a warm welcome and a brief introduction to the format. Attendees received helpful materials to guide their productivity, including:
- The presentation link and PDF outlining the session format
- A task planner (Word document) for attendees to set and plan their tasks for the session
- A link to a Pomodoro timer to structure work intervals
If you attended but didn’t receive these materials, feel free to contact the Law Division—we’ll be happy to send them your way.
Pomodoro in Action
Following the Pomodoro technique, we worked in two 30-minute focused intervals, with a 5-minute break in between. The Law Division kept track of the time, so everyone could focus on their tasks.
Some participants worked on their own, completing tasks like proofreading, translation, or marketing. We also set up a breakout room for LawD Members that have joined the Marketing Work Group, giving them space to focus on their assigned tasks. The atmosphere was friendly and productive, with many people sharing updates in the chat as they worked.
Here are some of the tasks that members shared they were working on during the session:
- Finalizing financial and legal translations
- Preparing paperwork for clients
- Cleaning up email inbox and answering pending emails
- Planning website updates and digital branding
- Sending pending invoices
- Translating documents for NGOs and courts
Sharing and Connection
After the work session, we came back together to share updates on what everyone had been working on. This gave participants a chance to reflect on their progress and hear from others in the group.
We also opened the floor for questions about our profession and running a business. This led to helpful conversations on topics like branding, email marketing, building a digital presence, and participating in law-related events.
Participants shared tools they use to stay organized and manage their work, such as Toggl for time tracking and Zoho CRM for managing contacts and outreach.
We also discussed different tools for creating websites, marketing materials, and email signatures. Marketing strategies were another key topic, including a recap of last year’s webinar on email marketing, which several members found useful.
The Takeaway
We’re truly grateful for the positive feedback we received after our first coworking session:
“… thank you for organizing this – VERY useful and so nice to co-work instead of sitting ‘alone’ at the desk. I suggest you do it again, I’ll join! :)”
Participants also shared that:
- “The after talk was very useful.”
- “The session was very well planned, with the Pomodoro technique tips etc.”
- They appreciated “how the information was presented and the commitment of all of the attendees. It was a great atmosphere!”
- Many mentioned they “remained focused” throughout.
- “At the end of the time, some of us stayed logged on and discussed various relevant issues,” which added even more value to the experience.
We’re thrilled to share that 88.9% of participants rated the session 5 stars!
Thank you to everyone who joined! This session reminded us how meaningful it is to work alongside others, even in a virtual space. We’re excited to host more coworking sessions and hope to see you there!
