We all have those tasks that somehow keep moving from one to-do list to the next. The August 21 LawD coworking session was a chance to finally give some of them a place on the calendar.
A Little More Time to Focus
Following the positive response to our previous coworking sessions, we decided to give members more time to work. This time, we had two 40-minute focused work sessions, with a 5-minute break in between, following the Pomodoro Technique.
That extra time gave everyone a little more room to settle into a task, stay focused, and make meaningful progress.
Working From Home Doesn’t Have to Mean Working Alone
Working from home sounds like a dream—and in many ways, it is. But it can also be surprisingly hard to stay focused and consistent when no colleagues are around, and plenty of distractions compete for your attention.
That’s where coworking can make a difference.
We all turned on our cameras, set the timer, and started working. Everyone had their own task, their own to-do list, and their own goals for the session. But we weren’t working completely alone. Seeing other people working alongside you creates a sense of shared focus that can be surprisingly motivating.
You look up from your screen and see someone else still working. You know they’re focusing on their own task, just like you are. There’s no need to talk or even interact—you simply have company while you work.
And sometimes, that’s enough to keep going for another 10 minutes, finish that email, complete that task, or check one more thing off your list.
Sometimes, You Just Need the Time—and the Company
Of course, having the session on your calendar helps. It creates a commitment to yourself and protects that time from everything else competing for your attention.
But there’s something else about showing up together.
For a little while, we’re not just people working from home in different places. We’re colleagues sharing the same virtual room, each quietly getting things done.
