Translation Practice Group

Coordinated by members of the CLD as a peer-led initiative

Who We Are

We are a group of Chinese-English and English-Chinese translators and members of the ATA Chinese Language Division, united by our shared goal of improving translation quality and working toward ATA certification. Friendly, committed, and collaborative, we support each other through regular practice and constructive feedback.

Our Goal

To become ATA-certified translators through consistent practice and peer review.

How It Works

Each round, participants receive two short passages—one in English and one in Chinese—similar in length and difficulty to those on the ATA certification exam. You’ll have 5 days to complete your translations and submit them.

Within 24 hours of the submission deadline, all submitted translations are compiled anonymously in a shared Google Doc, accessible only to those who participated in that round. Each participant is assigned to review two translations in the same language direction. (If you submit a Chinese-to-English translation, you’ll review two Chinese-to-English translations. If you choose to submit translations in both directions, you’ll provide four sets of feedback.)

You’ll then have 3 days to complete your feedback.

Each round lasts a total of 9 days.

What We Ask of You

  • Willingness to participate actively
  • Respect for deadlines
  • Commitment to giving thoughtful feedback—this is a reciprocal process, and others will be counting on you. Participation in each round is optional, but if you submit a translation, you are expected to provide feedback on others’ work
  • Access to Google Docs, where all translations and feedback are shared

Whether you’re preparing for certification or simply want to sharpen your skills, we’d love to have you on board.
