ATA Interpreters Division

Letter to Members – November 2018

Connections, Resources, and Support for ATA Interpreters

[Helen Eby - ATA59]
Helen Eby

Lorena Ortiz Schneider and I, Helen Eby, are honored to be your Interpreters Division (ID) Administration team. Together with our Leadership Council, we look forward to serving our colleagues.

At the ATA 59th Annual Conference in New Orleans, we enjoyed getting back in touch with our interpreting community. There were very interesting presentations, questions from the attendees, and conversations in the hallways. We also saw members participate actively in the annual meeting and connect at the division dinner. We count on everyone’s continued participation and will be exploring a few new ways to use technology to stay in touch. Please email Lorena and Helen at divisionID@atanet.org.

We have a strong Leadership Council (LC) with well-defined roles. Members were selected to reflect the diversity of our membership in specialties and languages. Their names are on the ID website: https://www.ata-divisions.org/ID/about/leadership-council/

* We have opened an ID member-only discussion group in Google Groups, where it is simple to add members and manage attachments. Please send an email to ata-interpreters+subscribe@googlegroups.com to register with our new group. Please include your full name as listed in the Directory of ATA Members. This is a member benefit.

* We have published Author Guidelines for writing for the ID blog. Please refer to them and submit articles or let us know who you think would be interested in writing for us. Our LC will be the Editorial Board for our Interpreters Division blog, which will now be an open access peer reviewed publication.

We invite you to become ATA voting members in one of the following ways:

1) By becoming a Credentialed Interpreter. This also leads clients to find you for assignments, since they can now search for interpreters by credential. We also get a ribbon at the conference!

2) If you are not a credentialed interpreter for any reason, please apply for voting membership through the Active Membership Review Process by clicking here: https://atanet.org/membership/memb_review_online.php

We invite you to stay in touch with the Division by joining our discussion group (see above) and by following us on our blog, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.

It is an honor to serve you.

Your colleagues,

Helen Eby, Administrator

Lorena Ortiz Schneider, Assistant Administrator
