MISSION AND PURPOSE
Mission
The mission of the ATA Literary Division is to uphold excellence
and ethical standards within the profession, to advocate fair
and just treatment of literary translators by authors, agents,
publishers, and reviewers, to promote recognition of literary
translators, to encourage cooperation with other literary
translation organizations, and to provide support and guidance
to literary translators as a community.
Purpose
The purpose of the Division is to further
cooperation and exchange of information among its members;
organize meetings, workshops and conference activities related
to literary translation; encourage and promote cooperation
with similar organizations; advocate fair and just treatment
of literary translators by authors, agents, publishers and
reviewers; publicize professional development opportunities;
and promote the policies and the objectives of the Division
and the Association.
Call for Editor of
Literary Division Newsletter
The ATA Literary Division invites applications
for Editor of Source, the newsletter of the division, for
the period of January 1, 2007 through December 31, 2009. The
new editor should be prepared to begin work by January 1,
2007.
Editorship of Source is a prestigious opportunity for an individual
with outstanding editing and proofreading skills as well as
an interest and commitment to literary translation. Source
is a significant part of the Literary Division with the purpose
of providing a forum for literary translation activities,
to connect the members of the Literary Division as a community,
and to share our activities with others. Source is oriented
toward publishing articles that relate to contemporary issues
across the spectrum of literary translation and is transitioning
to online publishing of three issues annually. The editor
will be responsible for working with the LD Administrator
and Assistant Administrator. Publishing guidelines will follow
those established by the ATA.
Applications should include a curriculum vitae and a letter
of application that outlines a vision statement for the newsletter,
setting forth goals and plans for the content of the newsletter,
three references with contact information, as well as a detailed
statement on your skills and strengths in editing and experience
in literary translation. Applications should be sent electronically
via MS Word document to Enrica J. Ardemagni, LD Administrator,
eardema@iupui.edu. The call for an editor will remain in effect
until the position is filled. Nominations for candidates for
this position will also be taken into consideration.
ATA Literary Division
Announces New Website, Call for Website Manager
The ATA Literary Division is building its
website by beginning with the tabs for information. Interested
in helping? We are looking for an individual who would be
interested in serving as the webmaster by loading content
information.. If you have web skills and can devote time to
keeping our website up to date, the manager will be responsible
for posting what is needed. The main work for the website
will be done through the ATA the Literary Division Administrator,
and the Literary Division volunteer will only need to keep
postings current, not to write, edit or proofread copy. Please
consider helping us as we now reach out to our 1,000+ members
in the Literary Division. Please write to Montserrat Zuckerman
at montsezuck@ameritech.net, ATA Literary Division Assistant
Administrator, who will be overseeing the content of the web
pages.
