Job announcement: Interpreter for the US Department of State

Office of Language Services / U.S. Department of State / Interpreting Division

Start Date: Immediate

Location: Washington, D.C.

Position Title: Program Analyst

Position Type: Full Time

Position Description: The Interpreting Division  at the Office of Language Services supports the interpreting needs of the State Department, the White House, and other federal agencies, primarily at the diplomatic level. Common requests for interpreting support include multilateral forums and bilateral political and trade negotiations, among many others.

The Program Analyst serves a vital project management function by fielding and processing incoming interpreting requests. The Program Analyst manages all aspects of a request, including but not limited to the following: an initial needs assessment of the request; preparation of a cost estimate and securing of funding from the requesting agency; assigning staff and/or contract interpreters; supporting interpreters in the field; and closing out a project administratively. The Program Analyst will work collaboratively with other Analysts, as well as senior interpreting staff and other administrative sections of Language Services.

Desired Skills: In addition to applicants with strong multi-tasking and communication skills, the Interpreting Division is particularly interested in those with linguistic and/or project management experience/training. Applicants who have conference or seminar interpreting experience/training will be highly competitive.
