The last few months have been busy for the Interpreters Division, and with ATA67 just around the corner, we wanted to share some updates about what has been happening in the Division and what is coming up.
At the end of August, we held our latest Interpreter Connections, focused on Interpreting in K–12 Settings. Natalia Abarca joined us to share her experience and practical tips for educational interpreters. Thank you to Natalia and to everyone who joined us!
During the event, we also raffled a virtual registration to the 10th Annual Interpreters & Translators Conference hosted by the Orange County Department of Education, taking place September 24–26. Congratulations to Brent, our raffle winner!
Interpreters Division Election Results
This year was also an election year for the Interpreters Division. Division officer elections are held every two years, and this year we had a contested election.
We want to share that Daniela E. Obregón has been elected Administrator and Gabriela Penrod has been elected Assistant Administrator.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote and participate in the election process. We would also like to thank Huda Mohamed for putting her name forward as a candidate for Administrator and for her willingness to serve the Division.
We also want to recognize Milena Calderari-Waldron, who stepped into the Interim Assistant Administrator role when the Division needed her. Thank you, Milena, for all you have done for the Division!
The newly elected officers will formally begin their terms at the Interpreters Division Annual Meeting, which will be held virtually on Wednesday, October 7, at 4:00 p.m. PT / 7:00 p.m. ET. ATA67 Is Almost Here!
We are getting closer to the ATA 67th Annual Conference in San Francisco, October 28–31, and the Interpreters Division has been busy preparing.
As we announced earlier this year, Josh Goldsmith will join us as a Distinguished Speaker following a joint nomination by the Interpreters Division and Spanish Language Division. He will present two sessions at ATA67:
AI-Powered Terminology Extraction: A Hands-on Guide for Spanish Translators and Interpreters
Thursday, October 29

How to Use AI to Prepare for Interpreting Assignments

We hope you will add both sessions to your conference schedule!
Members of our Leadership Council have also been working alongside colleagues from other ATA divisions to obtain continuing education approval for ATA67 sessions for medical interpreters and court interpreters in different states while conference registration is still open.
If you are an interpreter planning to attend ATA67, be sure to check the list of organizations that have approved ATA sessions. This information is updated regularly as additional approvals are received, so we encourage you to check back as we get closer to the conference:

We are also still working on securing a space at ATA67 where Interpreters Division members can meet and connect in person. We hope to have more information to share soon, so please keep an eye on our social media channels and your email for updates as we get closer to the conference.
Looking Ahead
There is still plenty ahead for the Interpreters Division this year. We look forward to seeing many of you at ATA67 in San Francisco and continuing to create opportunities for interpreters to connect, learn from one another, and become more involved in ATA.
