I will be wearing a flower to my interpreting events on Monday. Thank you for helping us unite in honoring them.
I am sorry to hear about your and every interpreter colleague’s loss. It’s nice that the memory of their role in promoting peace was present at the conference. May they rest in peace.
May their memories live on after the grief of their families, friends and colleagues subsides.
Esmat Orenza and Suzan Aboul Farag have been dear to me for nearly 30 years, both at a personal and professional levels.
I have shared the booth with each on several occasions and with great pleasure and fun every time!
Their tragic loss has pained everyone who has known them.

I am still trying to process the loss of my dear friend Gachi. A fellow Cuban whose parents’ home from childhood in Havana was designed by my father, she and my sister became close as expats living in Rome. Meeting in Rome, we bonded over the years as interpreters. I never imagined this could happen. A brilliant interpreter, with a sharp wit and irreverent sense of humor, she lived life to the fullest. A bright light has been extinguished but will live on in our hearts. I am deeply touched by the overwhelming solidarity from our community and that helps to soften the sadness.

A timely and very sad but moving tribute. My thoughts are with you, Maha, and with everyone who knew and loved these colleagues. Their loss is a reminder of how our work takes us into every context imaginable, where we play a crucial role. But that is small comfort for all who will miss them!
I’m so sad to hear that the global community of Interpreters lost 3 members is the Ethiopian Airline tragic crash! Too sad!
