What I do:
I work as a freelance linguist from my home office. I offer translation, editing and proofreading services from English into Brazilian Portuguese and from Spanish into Brazilian Portuguese. I also work on language quality assurance (LQA) projects in the same language pairs.
I’m proud of:
I am proud to be a hands-on parent and provide my two daughters with a great foundation for life. As a home-based freelancer, I take great joy in being present in their lives, seeing them grow and helping them with anything they need.
My wife and I are a team and she takes care of the books and all our paperwork. She is also our ‘logistics director,’ making sure our kids go to and from school and all their classes, including English, music and ballet.
My background:
I have a degree in Foreign Language Teaching (Portuguese and English) from the Universidade Cruzeiro do Sul, in São Paulo, as well as a specialization in English Literature from the Universidade de São Paulo (USP). For seven years I taught English, English for Specific Purposes (ESP), English Teaching Methodology, and English and North-American Literature at the Universidade Cruzeiro do Sul.
Tired of the big city, I decided to move to São Lourenço, a small town and thermal spring resort in the state of Minas Gerais, where I have lived for ten years. As a freelance linguist, I work mostly on technical, e-learning, human resources and IT projects.
Why do I belong to the PLD?
I joined PLD for the pleasure of contributing in any way I can to our group discussions and, mostly, to learn from colleagues’ experiences.
Major challenge in my career:
The hardest challenge is definitely juggling several projects at once and managing my time in order to deliver them within the agreed deadlines.
Reading:
I am finally reading “One Hundred Years of Solitude,” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, which is considered one of the most important works in Latin American literature. It is a story about a large family who founded the village. Generation after generation, all the family members seem destined to a life of loneliness.
Unforgettable projects:
I am now working on a large IT project related to information security. My most interesting project, however, was proofreading a film script. It was an adaptation of a book entitled “Papers in the Wind,” by Eduardo Sacheri, an Argentinian writer. I proofread the translation from Spanish into Brazilian Portuguese. The job was assigned to me by a translation agency, so I never met the author or the translator, but I know that the film was released internationally in Spanish as “Papeles en el Viento” in 2015, with subtitles in Portuguese and English.
