A FLY ON THE WALL: A TRANSLATOR HOVERS AROUND LILLIAN ROSS’ LITERARY JOURNALISM MASTERPIECES
By Jayme Costa Pinto
26 NOVEMBER 2024, 18:00 EST (via Zoom)
It’s impossible to talk about new journalism without mentioning Lillian Ross, The New Yorker Magazine writer and pioneer of the difficult art of merging literature and reporting. Ross’ last book, Reporting Always (2015), a collection of iconic profiles she wrote for the magazine spanning 40 years, has just been published in Portuguese. Led by the translator of this new version, this session will address the main challenges faced in bringing Ross’ unique style, which seeks to render the reporter invisible and enable the reader to enjoy privileged access to private moments of her real-life characters, into Portuguese.
This event will be conducted in Portuguese and is for PLD members only.
