Session Description:

A decade ago, Washington launched the China Initiative, a mistranslation-fueled legal witch hunt against innocent civilians and “law-breaking” companies such as Huawei. Today, China has risen above the United States in perception polls with some of the most respected brands in the world. How did the story of this remarkable reversal unfold? Live from Shanghai, Adrian Dunbar, CT shares the inside story starting from his appointment at the Shanghai International Studies University Graduate Institute of Interpreting and Translation.

Key Session Highlights:

  • Exposing falsified translation in the China Initiative
  • Replacing Xin Da Ya with Science-based Approaches at the National People’s Congress (NPC)
  • China statutes and Free Trade Zone (FTZ) laws
  • Law Firm ESL vs Translation

Presenters’ Bio:

Adrian Dunbar, CT is one of the world’s leading experts in the field of Chinese legal translation and maintains a practice providing expert translation of documents for business transactions, corporate matters, and litigation. He is the only translator in the world to hold both the prestigious American Translators Association Chinese-to-English certification and a United States law license.
