ata-fld-newsletter-logoEarlier this year I was reflecting on how to best help my teenage daughter, whose spoken French and comprehension are great, improve her written French. Our personal goal is for her to be able to succeed in Advanced Placement French through her high school next year, with only one year of formal French instruction behind her. I thought of asking for advice on the FLD Facebook group because other members must have children older than mine and have been through this, or worked hard on bilingualism and got to this point earlier. Within hours I received many postulated ideas, constructive tips, and tales of success (and sometimes resignation). The content was worth compiling and sharing for posterity, hence this post for A Propos.

À Propos: You Never Forget the First Time—A New Attendee’s Experience at the ATA Conference

As a first-time attendee, I thought I would write about my experiences at the ATA conference last year in Chicago. I am a beginning translator, so I debated whether or not attending the conference would be worth my while. It’s not that I didn’t think attending would be a good experience for me, but at times I wondered if postponing it until I was more established in the profession would be a better one.

À Propos: La crème de la crème à Chantilly !

ata-fld-newsletter-logoCette année, l’édition européenne de « On traduit à » … réunissait plus d’une centaine de professionnels de la traduction venant notamment de la France, de la Belgique, du Royaume-Uni, de la Suisse, du Canada et des États-Unis et près d’une dizaine de formateurs chevronnés et passionnés. C’était un rendez-vous annuel où les domaines de spécialisation (droit, finance, médical, marketing, communication, etc.) n’avaient plus de frontières. Un seul but : monter la barre encore plus haut!

À Propos: Professional Training Topped with Collegial Networking: Translate in Chantilly

ata-fld-newsletter-logoChantilly, already famous for horses and whipped cream, became known as a hive of French and English translation activity the first week of August 2015 as one hundred colleagues gathered to attend this year’s “Translate in…/On traduit à…” event. This language-specific series has mushroomed in both size and reputation since its inception in 2009. This year marks the first time it was held outside of North America  and it did not fail to live up to expectations.
